Been a Long time

I apologize. It appears to have been a while since I was last "here". I've missed you, dear almost non-existent audience! I've been incredibly busy! I'm currently not working - still employed, just not working as I am recovering from a very minor surgery. OK, I am just assuming it is minor as it is just corrective surgery due to carpal tunnel syndrome. Am I wrong? Who cares!

Despite not working, I've been really busy. I've become an admin for a very new community site. We are working our asses off trying to ensure our little section of the web is safe and drama free. In addition to that, I've been doing a community newsletter. It's really exciting as I've never done this before. It's small now, but I'm looking forward to it expanding as we increase our audience.

Blah

Sitting at the laundrymat with the husband. Stayed up WAY too late last night and I'm exhausted. And starving.

Dinner, then Lily Tomlin with mom later. Blah.

I must RANT

I commend KFC for supporting the breast cancer research group, but I find it ludicrous they are doing this while bringing out the Double Down AND only donating a whopping $.50 - those buckets are what, $20? Also, I strongly object to the fact we don't see corporations donating to things like Prostate Cancer research.

I love being a woman, but I'm tired of seeing female causes put ahead of other causes (and yes, I realize breast cancer affects both sexes). But c'mon - men aren't mentioned in the breast cancer ads (relay for life, etc), we ask men to 'walk a mile in HER shoes' because of sexual assault while men being assaulted get ridiculed, and we wear red to support research for WOMEN's heart health.

Character Development

Downloaded a really great character development template. Of course, it's for the Kindle on iPhone application so I'm now redoing it as an Open Office document.

Since I've never really known how much detail to give a character, I think this will really help.

Helping those less fortunate

Today, while on my way to look at furniture, I was stopped at the corner of 9th and North Grand (and yes, that will only make sense to someone local). While I had a green light and could have turned, there was a blind man with a cane on the corner. He was having a seriously hard time crossing the road - I'm fairly certain he wanted to go North, but ended up walking into the middle of the intersection, then finally ending up on the corner west of where he started. I sat there with my heart in my throat, scared that someone was going to hit him because this is a fairly busy intersection - but everyone stopped and waited for him.

I write this post, not because I'm proud of the people who stopped and waited, even though I am. I'm actually quite upset by the whole episode - here is someone who should probably have a service dog, but doesn't. Yet, almost every time I'm in Wal-Mart lately, I see seemingly perfectly healthy people with service dogs. They can see fine, they can walk fine...why do THEY get a service dog and this person does not?

It leaves me wondering what we can do to help people such as this man - does he even need help getting a service dog?

Elderly Gay Couple Split, Possessions Sold by California County

I doubt very many people read this blog, if any. It would be nice to have readers, but that was never my sole intention. I have, in general, nothing of myself to promote. No fictional piece of work, no autobiography, no memiors...

But today I do have something to promote. It isn't necessarily about me, but if we allow this to continue, it could be. Then, it could be about you as well.

I'm married, but gays are not the only couples who don't marry today. Yes, it's about the inability to marry for many gays, just as it is about equality for all to the many straight couples who don't marry in support of the fight for marriage equality. For others, they just don't feel the need - they have a loving, healthy relationship that they don't need someone else to define.

The writer at the Human Rights Campaign tells the story much better than I possibly could, so instead of rehashing it, I'll just include a link. It's a travesty and something should be done. I hope everyone agrees with me.
